Founded in 2010, Halo's Haven is centralized upon the core mission that every horse, that every animal deserves a safe, healthy and secure place to be. Unfortunately, not everyone has those values and too many creatures are neglected, abused, or sent off for slaughter. We are trying to change this, through rescue, rehabilitation, re-homing and legislative advocacy.

20 Years And More

As a recognized 501c3 organization, we officially became established as a non-profit organization in 2010, however, rescuing and rehabilitating horses has been something we have been actively doing for well over 20 years. We are equestrians. We are caregivers. We are passionate, and now as an organization, we have the ability to create more awareness, and hopefully, rescue even more of these beautiful creatures from terrible situations.

Our Focus

We are trying to help break the cycle of horse slaughter, animal cruelty, and neglect. We have gone to places you could not imagine to save these poor animals from shocking and devastating situations. They're worth it and we do everything we can to help them realize they deserve a life of peace, security and safety. We hope you will help us help them too.

What Our Horse Rescue Does...

Rescue

There are untold stories of horses who are in unimaginably dire situations. Moments away from a cruel and frightening death. Intentional injuries inflicted upon them, uncured illnesses, being locked away for days or weeks, starvation, and absolute vile cruelty.

Rehabilitate

These horses are literally shell shocked, fearful, exhausted, injured, in pain, and sick. It takes emergency veterinary care, dental care and farriers to help a horse back from the edge of all they faced. We are so grateful for our incredible team of equine specialists.

Rehome

It can often take several years before a horse truly reaches the "sound" point of their life, but in some instances it happens sooner. We take extraordinary care in where our wards are placed because they do deserve a forever home that is safe and secure.

In a small, dedicated horse rescue nestled in the town of St .Michaels ,there stood a magnificent draft WorkHorse named Savior. His towering frame and gentle eyes told a story of years spent in service, pulling heavy loads with unwavering dedication. But behind his stoic exterior, Savior carried a burden no one could see—a silent pain that grew with each passing day. Rescued from a life of hardship and neglect, Savior found solace in the caring hands of his rescuers. They worked tirelessly to ease his suffering, but the years of strain had taken their toll. Despite their best efforts, Savior’s condition worsened, leaving him in constant agony. As days turned into weeks, the rescue team faced a heartbreaking reality: Savior’s condition was grave, and his future uncertain. Yet, amid the sorrow and uncertainty, there was a glimmer of hope—a testament to the resilience and spirit of this noble creature. Through it all, Savior remained a beacon of strength, his spirit unbroken despite the pain. Savior means the world to our rescue please pray for this beautiful soul🙏🏻

Savior,a beautiful rescue horse, was saved from slaughter , but his battle is far from over. When Savior arrived at Halos Haven Rescue ,he had overgrown hooves and a spirit broken by mistreatment. Despite the odds, Savior has shown incredible resilience and a will to live. However, Savior’s journey to recovery is hindered by urgent medical needs. He now requires immediate veterinary care to treat his navicular condition in the hooves, and other health issues. The cost of his treatment is substantial, and as a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of donors to provide the care these animals so desperately need. Ideas for your post.. Update Day 5 - Captain It’s been 5 days since Captain arrived. While the pictures don’t lie he is a beautiful husky that wants to be by your side. It’s not all unicorns and rainbows. What you don’t see while we work tirelessly to help him get healthy, The Giardia he came with that causes explosive diaherra and lack of interest in food. An expensive culture and now vet care for these findings . Severe separation anxiety & extreme shelter stress that he developed in ACC for 2 months. A special crate has been order so he can’t escape and hurt himself. Captain will remain on the meds he came with while we try and convince him it’s ok we aren’t abandoning him like his former family did. The costs for saving a life is not cheap!!! Captain, a two-year-old husky mix rescued from New York City found on the streets dumped by previous owner. Captain was in a high kill, shelter, marked urgent kill list due to his separation anxiety!! Captain was transported from New York city to St Michaels Maryland tranquilized with trazodone and then I was given a bottle of trazodone. We are working extremely hard to wean him off being tranquilized with a transition from shelter life. We can’t blame him for being anxious. Stay tuned for more of his journey. He is an incredibly sweet dog and deserved better and now better is here to stay.♥️

Captain the rescued husky mix from New York City animal shelter on the urgent kill list. Captain arrived on the farm with a bottle of trazodone for his horrible, separation anxiety after being dumped twice on New York City streets. Captain will scratch and pull the average crate down, but hurt himself in the interim. He is a really sweet, friendly dog but doesn’t want someone to dump him ever again. Please keep your animals if you’re going to take an animal on never dump it it’s like dumping a child.🙏🏻🐶 stay tuned for more adventure in his journey of recovery. His stomach is not worrying about who’s gonna leave him next, but it won’t be us.🥰

Captain the two year old Husky mix was on the kill list for today !!!! We stepped up and rescued him. He needs some serious TLC. Separation anxiety. He has been let down too many times by humans. As you see I am still in a boot with a broken foot. Any dog walkers out there ? ♥️

Busy day today Midnight in Paris had X-rays of front hooves. She was sore and so we wanted to check and make sure she didn’t have laminitis. She does have some rotation but it was old. So a flare up. Blood taken to make sure she doesn’t have a metabolic problem.🙏🏻

Poor Calais haz a very painful Abscess

Today Calais was holding up his hind right hoof in pain. It has been so muddy out He has an abscess I soaked him in Epson salt, then wrapped him and poultice. Calais is on SMZs and Bute 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Praying to God all is well with the x-rays tomorrow.🙏🏻 his condition. Cushing causes many problems, but we will see what happens tomorrow. Everything is in God’s hands.

Is the race worth it?

It really saddens me to see beautiful horses run into the ground 😭. Church Hill downs is a killing field! Pictured along this magnificent, athletic beautiful horse is Stellars father! Thank God Stellar did not perform well as a race horse.
